Spring Flag fees include all BC Football and BCPFA affiliation fees. Sibling discounts available for 3+ children — email registration to set up.

03 / How to Register

From inbox to first practice.

The whole process takes about ten minutes. Registration is handled through Teamlink — our league's registration platform.

Match your kid to the right age cohort and season from the table above. Not sure where they fit? Ask us first — we'd rather help you place than have you guess.

For tackle and volunteer-bond families, drop off the equipment and volunteer deposit cheques at the first practice. We'll be at John Oliver Park ready to greet you.
04 / Refunds

Plans change.
We get it.

Fall Tackle & Cheer. Written notice required. Before July 31: 100% refund. Between August 1 and the first regular season game: 50% refund. After the first regular season game: no refund. All refunds are charged a $30 administration fee. Football Canada and BCPFA insurance fees are annual and non-refundable.

05 / FAQ

The questions
parents ask.

Email Secretary
Q.01What does my child need to bring to practice?+

Cleats, a mouthguard, athletic shorts, a water bottle, and an athletic-cut t-shirt. For tackle players, helmets and shoulder pads are issued by the club. Cheer kids need indoor athletic shoes and a hair tie.

Q.02What's the volunteer commitment?+

We're 100% volunteer-run — every coach, every executive, every line judge. Each family is asked to put in a small number of hours per season (field setup, concession, 50/50, sticks & downs, etc.) and provide a refundable volunteer deposit cheque held for the season.

You'll pick your shifts at the start of the season.

Q.03Is tackle football safe for kids?+

Player safety is the first priority. Every Longhorns tackle coach is certified in Football BC's Safe Contact technique. Equipment is checked and re-fitted every season. New players start in flag and work up — most kids spend their first one or two years in Flag-tykes or Spring Flag before stepping into pads.

If you'd rather your child play non-contact, we run flag football year-round.

Q.04What's the difference between Flag and Tackle?+

Flag football is non-contact — defenders pull a flag from the ball-carrier's belt instead of tackling. It's a great way to learn the game without pads. Tackle is full-contact, with helmets, shoulder pads, and certified Safe Contact coaching.

Most of our 5-to-7 year olds start in Flag-tykes. Spring Flag runs March through June for ages 8 to 11. Fall Tackle starts in late August for ages 8+.

Q.05What is Cheer at the Longhorns?+

Our cheer program runs in parallel with every football division. Cheerleaders learn chants, sideline performance, and routines, perform at home games, and compete at the year-end VMFL Cheer Competition. No prior experience required — we welcome first-timers every season.

Q.06Is there a sibling discount?+

Yes. We offer a sibling discount for families registering two or more kids in the same season. Email registration with your kids' names and divisions and we'll set it up.

Q.07Can I help coach or volunteer beyond the basic commitment?+

Absolutely — every coach, every executive, every line judge is a volunteer parent or alumni. If you're interested in coaching, email the president. For other volunteer roles, mention it on your registration form or email the secretary.
